Who we are
Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School (OLASS) was founded on 23rd January, 1956 by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA). From a small cohort of pioneering students, OLASS has grown into one of Lagos’ most respected Catholic girls’ secondary schools.
Everything we do here flows from a simple conviction: that every girl who walks through our gates carries God-given potential waiting to be formed, challenged and sent forth in service.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, yaba was established on 23rd January 1956 by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles. The school was founded as one of the Catholic Archdiocesan Missionary Schools in Lagos, aiming at uplifting women and children through education, healthcare, and pastoral care. The first administrator was Rev. Sr. Breda. From inception, OLASS has been committed to providing girls with a balanced intellectual, moral, and physical education grounded in Christian principles.
In 1979, the Lagos State Government took over the school, as it did with other mission schools. There was a drastic reduction in the standard of education during this period. This action undermined the quality of education provided by the Catholic missionary institutions like OLASS, Yaba with great emphasis on both the moral and academic development of the girl child.
On the 2nd of October, 2001, the Lagos state government under the leadership of Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned some of the missionary schools to their original owners and OLASS, Yaba was one of the five secondary schools that were returned to the Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos and Proprietor of the Schools, His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie. Hence, the birth of the new OLASS, Yaba from October 2001 till date.
Since 2001, OLASS has been rebuilt to meet international standards. Guided by our Catholic mission, we now have modern facilities including a Chapel, Labs, ICT Centre, Library, Clinic, Auditorium, and upgraded sports infrastructure to support academic and holistic growth.
To provide quality education by making use of the best human and material resources available, while nurturing students to grow spiritually, morally, academically, and into responsible citizens of our nation.
To produce solid, balanced, mature, and trustworthy Nigerian women who will lead our nation to an enviable height, knowledge and service.
